The Calle Ocho Music Festival (Festival de la Calle Ocho) is a one-day fiesta that culminates Carnaval Miami. It takes place in March within the Little Havana group of Miami, Florida between SW eighth Street and 27th Avenue all the way down to ninth Avenue.[1]

The competition is probably the most greatest in the world, and over one million visitors attend the Calle Ocho tournament. It is a free side road competition that showcases Pan-American tradition.[2][3] Since 2020, it's on hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic.[4][5]

History

Calle Ocho began in 1978 as some way for Cuban immigrants to express themselves and train South Floridians about their tradition in their neighborhood.[6][7] The competition's center of attention grew to include participation from all Latin American nations.[8]

In 1996, the pageant used to be cancelled due to the capturing down of four Cuban exile aviators by way of Cuban warplanes on February 24, 1996. The aviators have been part of the Brothers to the Rescue group.[9]

On March 6, 2020, Miami mayor Francis Suarez and two different city officers announced throughout a press convention that the Miami municipal executive denied Calle Ocho organizers a permit to hold a festival in 2020 following health considerations throughout the COVID-19 pandemic; the festival remains on hiatus for now.[4][5]

Program

The annual competition shuts down 28 blocks of SW 8th Street with a view to host dancing, meals, beverages and 30 phases of reside leisure.[10]
